WK 2 - Zaha Hadid

Guangzhou Opera House
Main purpose being a Multi-Function Hall. This design evolved from the concept of a natural landscape and the interplay of architecture and nature. Particularly influenced by river valleys and the way they are transformed by erosion. Fold lines in landscape define territories and zones in the Opera House - which cuts dramatic interior and exterior canyons for circulation.

Maggie's Centre FIFE
Drop-in Cancer, which is linked to Victoria Hospital. Hadid suggests that this is a continuation of existing tree line and topography of the surrounding landscape. The centre acts as a transition between nature and the hospital. In conjunction with trees and natural foilage this acts as a prtective environment in star contrast with the Victoria Hospital.

JS Bach Chamber Music Hall
“The design enhances the multiplicity of Bach’s work through a coherent integration of formal and structural logic. A single continuous ribbon of fabric swirls around itself, creating layered spaces to cocoon the performers and audience with in an intimate fluid space.” said Hadid.

Independent Study for WK 2 - Spore Creatures

ROJO
Rojo, meaning 'red' in Spanish, was my first Spore Creature I had created and was purely experimental. I tried to play around with commonly assumed creatures within this society and really played with the natural logic of animals. E.g. eyes on legs.

FUERTE

Fuerte, meaning sharp in Spanish. This was probably my favourite spore creature, not based upon any structure, but more of just playing around with the Spore creation base.

PLATANO
Platano, meaning banana in Spanish was purely a random design. I had no solid foundation prior to creating this creature and was more of a spontaneous creation. However, as I continually added features I began to modify Platano into somewhat of a branching out fallen tower.

WK 1 - FOLDING & MODELLING pt. 2

Concepts
I had chosen Zaha Hadid as my chief influence and architectural inspiration for my paper models. Her work seemed suitable for this task as her structures are typically fluid and flow smoothly - which would integrate well with our paper material used.

Hadid's "Maggie's Centre FIFE" which is a cancer institute was the main basis and foundation of my model #1. It's triangular edges and overall sharp feel felt suitable for the paper task. This was rather easy to build and not completely sophisticated but did capture the ideals and main concepts of Hadid's triangular style and unique styling with particular shapes.

Having researched Hadid's work, I drew inspiration from her work in the "JS Bach Chamber Music Hall" and also the "Guangzhou Opera House." These were heavily based on her notorious abstract and swerving models, which led me to create my model #2.
